Our Story

The ministry now known as Fusion Church began on the first Sunday of 2015. Pastor David and Pastor Maritza went on a retreat together in December of 2014, to seek God for His will in their ministry. On this retreat the Lord began to lay out the vision, purpose, and structure of a new church. The three main points the Lord stressed to them was:

1. Belize has a diverse culture and history, but God has one culture.

The focus of our church’s DNA is to stand on the word for direction and answers. If we don’t agree on anything we look to the Bible, the standard of God for the life of believers. When we find the answer we walk in it regardless of it being familiar or new to us as believers. If the issue is not clearly defined then we walk in Grace toward one another. God does not use cookie cutters to create people, we are supposed to be different.

Our Name.

In praying about the name of the church God kept reminding us we are a diverse group with different cultures, backgrounds, and histories being molded and made into one Spirit led culture. The Lord showed us the verse in the Gospel Of John which shows His desire for His followers. It is found in the prayer of Jesus over His disciples.  John 17:21 “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

While studying terminology for diverse cultures we found a name that shined above the rest and best described what God was doing in us: FUSION.

2. “God Is Our Source, People Are Our Purpose.”

It is not just a phrase or motto, but a key element of Fusion Church’s vision. It is a guideline for ministry. It is based on the verses of scripture in Hebrews chapter 12.

Heb. 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

It shows us that we do not own the church or its people, but God does. It shows us that we are not responsible to move the mountains of resources, sickness, trials, adversaries, or spiritual authority, but God is. It is His church, His vision, His plan, His responsibility, and His bill to pay. We rest in him and walk in obedience while God finishes the work He started.

Why we’re here.

This declaration also reminds us why we are here. The joy Christ had before Him was the restoration of the relationship He once had with man. His work was to restore us to fellowship, and destroy the works of separation, death, and sin Satan had brought by deceiving Adam and Eve. It shows us the true purpose of every believer, to bring the personhood of Jesus Christ to others. We seek every week to have a true encounter with Jesus.

We pursue excellence.

We focus on this through operating to the best of our ability in a spirit of excellence. We do everything we can to have the best worship we can every single service, so that as we praise and seek him, his anointing can flow over and in us to enable us to hear Him as He speaks to our hearts bringing hope, revelation, and change. We seek to have the best children’s ministry that we can, so that our children can be impacted in a very real way on a level that they understand and are taught the basic truths of faith found in the Bible. Finally, we seek to have the best ministering we can, so that the word of God can be released over us, that revelation and wisdom is increased in our lives, and so we are fed that bread of heaven that both satisfies our souls and brings us into closer relationship with Christ.

We are outward focused.

At Fusion Church, we know that God has called us to impact others for Christ. It reminds us to keep the focus on the needs of others, not on ourselves. We focus on what we can do, not just inside our church. We are mindful of how we can affect the world around us, to meet the needs of others in a way that shows the love of God. From the very beginning, we have dedicated 10% of all church offerings to outreach.

We are outward focused.

Eph. 4:10-13 “He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

We understand from these powerful scriptures in Ephesians that God has a purpose for the people He brings into His body. He has called the ministry for these specific vocations:

  • For the perfecting of the saints. The greek word means “the complete furnishing.” It is the equipping through discipleship that enables others to rise to the challenges, find their own gifts and calling, and brings maturity.
  • The work of ministry. Simply the work of serving. To help meet whatever is needed whether comfort, prayer, answers, or help it is what we are called to do.
  • Edifying of the body of Christ. Literally the “architecture, or structure” of the church. We build the church, which can only be done effectively through the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We lead and feed the church.

Verse 13 shows us the purpose of these vocations: Till we come into oneness of faith and relationship with Christ, and are matured into a complete christian as measured by the example of Jesus Christ who is complete.  In order to complete these mandates from God we believe Fusion Church was created to disciple others and help equip them in the processes of finding their gifts, calling and personal ministry in the Kingdom. In other words, we are here to help you discover what you’re called to, and assist in any way we can in you becoming fully functional in your own ministry, whether that is inside or outside the church.  God has not called anyone to be a bench warmer.  You are drafted into the army of the Living God and are empowered by His Holy Spirit for a purpose. We want to help you discover and accomplish that purpose.
